In English, we learn how to be more proficient in our writing and speaking by participating in activities that have us talk in front of the class. This is valuable to my future because it will help me learn to be more comfortable with talking in front of larger groups of people when I give a presentation. The project that I am submitting for English is the Monster presentation, where the learning objectives included evaluating evidence to construct an argument and speaking at a good volume when giving a presentation. The way I have completed the learning objective of evaluating evidence to construct an argument was by showing that I can read evidence that is given to me and modify it to work in my favor. I proved that was capable of speaking at a good volume when I was recorded while I was presenting my argument in front of my class.
The project was about making a strong argument about the book Monster and presenting it in front of the class while being recorded. For this project, I was required to read through the book Monster by Walter Dean, which is about a teenager named Steve who is on trial for the murder of a man called Mr. Nesbitt and it is up to the jury to either find Steve innocent or guilty. The Process I went through to do this project and meet the learning objectives first started with us reading part of the book Monster every day in English. Then, we would answer questions about the parts of the book we read just prior to the reading. Finally we received a packet that helped us prepare an argument about the case from the book that we later presented to our class. Throughout this process listed above, I have learned how to take pieces of information and evidence and put them together to make new evidence. I have also become more confident with talking in front of a crowd of people. This shows me that I learn how to write and speak better from experience. This especially showed when I was up talking in front of the class. Compared to my Freshman year, I did way better at talking in front of a crowd in my Sophomore year.
The Two School-Wide Learning Outcomes I demonstrated with this Artifact include mastering skills needed in a career or college and thinking critically and creatively. I have demonstrated that I have mastered skills needed for careers and college in this project by showing that I have become more comfortable when talking to crowds of people. This is important because being able to talk and present in front of crowds can be an extremely important aspect of my career or college. I have also demonstrated that I can think critically in this project when I used evidence that I was given in order to create my own argument. This is important for me to know how to do because knowing how to take pieces of evidence or information and being able to make it work in my favor can come in handy for my future.
