During the class of Biology/Sustainable Agriculture, the learning objectives are to learn about GMOs, DNA, Osmosis, and the cell structures of plants and animals. This is valuable to my future because this will help me when trying to get a job as a plastic surgeon. The project that I am submitting as an artifact for Biology/Sustainable Agriculture had the learning objectives of learning how genetically modified foods positively and negatively affect our lives. These link back to the course learning objectives because I needed to know about DNA and genetics before I could learn about GMOs. The assignment or project was about making an infographic about a specific genetically modified plant and required me to research about the plant and list it’s pros, cons, health issues, and where it originated from. The Process I went through to do this project and meet the learning objectives first started with choosing which genetically modified plant I was going to make an infographic about, then I did some research about the plant and listed what was good about it and what was bad about it. Next, I researched for any health issues my GMO could possibly cause to consumers and then searched for where the plant first originated. Finally, I made a google slide and added all the information I learned about and completed the infographic. Throughout this process listed above I have realized I have learned or grown by learning how to find reliable sources when conducting research. These link back to the course goals and project goals because this shows that I was able to make an accurate infographic about the GMO. This tells me the following about myself and how I learn because it shows that I can learn by researching what I need on a computer or other device. The Two School Wide Learning Outcomes I demonstrated with this Artifact are mastering skills needed in career and college and applying technological skills for the 21st century. I have demonstrated mastering skills needed in career and college in the artifact by demonstrating that I understand the DNA and genetics of a GMO and what a GMO is. This is important for college because it will help me have a better chance of getting a job as a plastic surgeon. The Second SLO I demonstrated was applying technological skills to the 21st century by using technology to not only research about the project, but to also create and complete it. This is important because I will have to use technical skills a lot throughout my life, so it is extremely useful to know how to use technology. I could have improved thinking critically and creatively by being more creative about how I designed and put together my infographic and I could have probably even added better information. Overall the the most important things I have learned in this class this year are about plant and animal structures, genetics, and osmosis. These skills I have learned will help me in the future by helping me become prepared for when I am trying to get my job/career.
